Ozzie Smith Event Draws Dozens to Doubleday Field All Photos By Carter Kegelman

COOPERSTOWN – Despite gray skies and threats of rain dozens of hearty baseball fans gathered on Doubleday Field to participate in the fifth annual 'Players, Legends, and You.' During a span of nearly two hours participants turned double plays with Smith playing shortstop and Brett covering first. Smith’s annual fun on the field event raises funds for the museum’s education programs. Joining the Wizard this summer were special guests, Ryne Sandberg, George Brett and Negro leagues legend Buck O’Neil.



Unveiling of Satchel Page Statue Launches Induction Weekend
COOPERSTOWN - National Baseball Hall of Fame executives and baseball fans, old and new, gathered on the grounds of Cooper Park, Friday, July 28 for an official dedication ceremony as the museum recognized Hall of Famer Satchel Paige and the Negro Leagues with a new effigy in Cooper Park.
“This Hall of Fame induction weekend is one of the most historic,” said Jane Forbes Clark, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
Clark went on to explain that the statue of Satchel Page will stand as a tribute to all who played and or worked in the Negro Leagues and that Friday afternoon's event was a splendid way to launch a weekend honoring the lives of 17 Negro League players and executives.




2:30 PM: The Big Bam
Award-winning author Leigh Montville returns to the Hall of Fame to discuss his new book on Babe Ruth, The Big Bam. Montville will be available for a book signing immediately following the presentation. 4:00 PM: Book Signing with Sharon Robinson
Kim Schlesinger from Princeton Illinois shares a laugh with Sharon Robinson as she gets her copy of the book signed.

The Hall of Fame welcomes Sharon Robinson, daughter of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, for a book signing. Robinson will sign copies of her books Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America and Safe at Home.




7:00 PM: Sneak Preview: Everyone's Hero

Everyone's Hero is a soon to be released animated film, created by the late Christopher Reeve, featuring the voices of Whoopi Goldberg, William H. Macy, Mandy Patinkin, Rob Reiner and others. The film tells the story of a young boy who travels over 1,000 miles to help Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees win the World Series. Tickets are available to Friends of the Hall of Fame members by calling the Membership department at 607-547-0397, beginning Monday, June 26. Any remaining tickets will be available to the general public beginning Monday, July 17. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for children age 12 and under. Rated: G. ... Grandstand Theater.
