Otsego County Sheriff's Department Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident 6:32 p.m., Thursday, April 5 County Route 33 in Town of Middlefield Deceased: Christopher T. Gentile, 18 yoa, Cooperstown, NY Narrative: On April 5, 2007, at 6:32 p.m., the Otsego County 911 Center received a cellular 911 call reporting a motor-vehicle accident on County Route 33 approximately one mile south of County Route 33W in the Town of Middlefield. Units from the Milford Fire Department and the Otsego County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene, Gentile was found on the shoulder of the roadway, unresponsive. First responders and law enforcement were unable to locate a pulse and upon arrival of the ambulance and paramedics, Gentile was pronounced dead at the scene. Units from the Cooperstown Fire Department were also dispatched and assisted at the scene with traffic control as County Highway 33 was closed down for two hours during the investigation. At this time, the investigation revealed that Gentile was travelling north on County Highway 33 when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the east shoulder of the road and crossed the southbound lane, leaving the west shoulder, where the vehicle overturned several times, ejecting Gentile. The investigation is ongoing.
